Utah tests 80mph limit on particular stretches of I-15
It's a success, and that means nothing changed, most everyone was already speeding, and not having accidents, and they are still going about the same speed without accidents.
Ergo, we're going to drive the way we drive regardless of posted speed limits, duh. Put more cops on the road and watch us slow down though.

Kobi Eshun Photographs

I invite you to look at the breathtaking photography of my good friend, Kobi Eshun. Kobi is a car guy, inventor, photographer, world champion stunt kite flyer and very proud father. He and I met in our first job out of school and we roomed together for a few years in the old Besler Building (coincidentally the factory where the Doble Steam Car and Besler Steam Plane were produced in the 1920s-1930s) in Emeryville, California.
"Kobe" was born in Ghana, went to school in England and Texas and now calls California home.

Besler Steam Plane & Doble Steam Car
Amazing 1933 film from the Besler Company of the Doble Steam Car and the Besler Steam Plane. I actually lived in the old Doble/Besler factory in Emeryville, California from about 1986 to 1993, when Emeryville was still an old industrial wasteland and cheap housing for artists instead of the shopping mecca it is today.
The Doble is a little known but magnificent automobile that competed with the likes of Rolls Royce & Duesenberg. When the Doble brothers' company failed, William Besler bought the factory & continued to develop steam power. He worked with General Motors for many years on steam power. Besler also provided smoke screen generators to Allied forces during WWII.

The CMT-380 Hybrid Concept Comes Complete With Jet Turbine
Small companies are developing electric supercars with Ferrari-rivalling performance may possibly seem fairly common these days, and the most recent entrant into this niche market segment--Capstone Turbine--seems determined to follow in the footsteps of other fledgling electric car start-ups.Capstone Turbine is pushing traditional hybrid and electric vehicle barriers with the introduction of the CMT-380, a high-performance, hybrid supercar powered by lithium-polymer batteries and an ultra-low emission, range-extending microturbine engine.
Yes, you read it exactly. The CMT-380 features an ultra-clean as well as quiet jet engine under the hood of the borrowed Factory Five Racing GTM body.
Through this unique powertrain combination on board, the CMT-380 is claimed to be capable of traveling from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.9 seconds, reach a top speed of 150 mph and drive more than 500 miles on a single tank of fuel.
The microturbine engine develops about 40 hp (horsepower) and runs on diesel or biodiesel. The set-up features an electric generator as well as turbine components mounted on a single shaft that are supported by air bearings. So there are no liquids to lubricate or cool the microturbine.
It is so clean that it does not require any exhaust after treatment to meet stringent clean air requirements of the California Air Resources Board or EPA 2010.
While driving, the car can operate on 100% battery power in zero-emissions mode for a range of up to 80 miles. As soon as the batteries reach a pre-determined state of discharge, the microturbine quietly fires up and recharges the batteries on the fly to extend the driving range up to 500 miles similar to the set-up used by the upcoming Chevrolet Volt and most other range-extended plug-in hybrid vehicles.
Electronic Arts Chief Creative Director Richard Hilleman, who is the creator of popular video games, developed the concept for the high-performance hybrid-electric microturbine vehicle with support from Capstone Turbine, who is the world's leading clean technology manufacturer of microturbine energy systems.
The project is still in the concept phase and will be wholly on display at this week’s 2009 Los Angeles Auto Show.

Toyota Launches European 2010 Land Cruiser
Toyota has unveiled the European version of the Toyota Land Cruiser that is very different and smaller than the version that we have here in the US.
The European Land Cruiser is powered by a 3.0L diesel with 171 horsepower and is mated to a five-speed automatic transmission. The body on frame design yields 8.5 inches of ground clearance and gives the SUV the ability to wade through 27.6 inches of water.
Toyota will offer the European Land Cruiser in three trim levels with prices ranging from £29,795 to £44,795. Of course we won't get this model in the US badged as a Toyota, but it could be a clue to what to expect from the Lexus GX 460.
LA 2009 Preview: 2011 Mazda2 US-Spec. Set to Debut
Mazda has finally made it official that the small Mazda2 is going to be sold in the U.S. and Canada by the end of 2010. The 2011 Mazda2 will officially be unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show next month.
The Mazda2 shares its platform with the Ford Fiesta, which is also set to have its US debut at the show. Mazda has released one teaser of the subcompact, but didn't release any details about the engine lineup and what body styles we will receive. The preview shows the rear of the five-door hatchback model, so we can at least expect that model.
