ROLLS-ROYCE GHOST EXTENDED WHEELBASE

The ultra-luxury saloon, the sixth new model from Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, caters for customers who require increased space and comfort without sacrificing Ghost's unique balance of dynamism and poise.

The award-winning, four-seater Ghost has seen outstanding demand since its worldwide launch in 2009. Designed as a vision of simplicity, it is a Rolls-Royce that drives and rides in peerless fashion. Rolls-Royce Ghost Extended Wheelbase takes this principle further, designed as a car to drive or in which to be chauffeured. It will be built to order and is available in only limited numbers for 2011 until full production begins in 2012.

Ghost's ample interior space is further enhanced in the Extended Wheelbase variant by the addition of 170mm to the car's wheelbase, but with no detriment to the model's balanced proportions and stunning contemporary design. Legroom is significantly enhanced with knee-room more than doubled compared to the standard Ghost.

Increased cabin space in the rear passenger compartment and a panoramic sunroof sets new standards for interior ambience and light. Effortless entry and exit for passengers further reinforces Rolls-Royce Motor Cars' pinnacle position in the ultra-luxury segment.

Powered by the acclaimed Rolls-Royce Ghost 6.6 litre twin turbo charged V12 engine which produces an effortless 563hp and 780Nm of torque at just 1,500rpm, Rolls-Royce Ghost Extended Wheelbase accelerates from 0-100km/h in just five seconds. An intelligent, four corner air suspension maintains a perfect balance between ride and handling.

On the unveiling of the new car, CEO Torsten Müller-Ötvös said, "This latest Rolls-Royce is a model of outstanding design and unrivalled luxury. Rolls-Royce Ghost Extended Wheelbase delivers all the poise and dynamism enjoyed by discerning Ghost owners, with the indulgent experience of an extended wheelbase car. It is the very best of both worlds.

"This is the first time we have undertaken a world launch of a Rolls-Royce car in China, underscoring the strategic significance of this market and the Asia Pacific region. We expect to build on last year's record growth, with further strong demand for Rolls-Royce models and a positive economic forecast throughout the region," he added.

Rolls Royce Hemi

Luxury meets muscle.
No, it's not a chop. It's a 1970 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow built by Joe's Street Rod Shop.
Poking out of the hood behind the Spirit of Ecstasy is a blown 572-ci Chrysler Hemi that is bottle fed to a more-than-adequate
1,350 horsepower.

The car has all of the luxury touches you would expect from a Rolls, including full leather, Vintage Air A/C, four TVs and a jar of Grey Poupon. Underneath it's a full tilt boogie runner with a Chris Austin chassis, Air Ride, Wilwood brakes, full tubs and Billet Specialties Riviera wheels.
It even has a leather-swathed trunk with matching coverings for the batteries, fuel cell and bottle. Notice the leather wrapped roll cage inside as well, a very elegant touch, and one that sums this sophisticated beast up perfectly.

Thrupp and Maberly

Charles Thrupp Ltd. was established as a wagon maker in 1760 and merged with Maberly 1858 to form Thrupp & Maberly Ltd. in London.  1896 brought it into the automobile world by building an electric so-called "Victoria Carriage" to Spain's Queen Mary.
Later, many bodies came to be built at Rolls Royce, as the Silver Ghost limousine 1912th
One of the more unusual creations of that time, Thames Iron Works built this stagecoach-like thing, a "Stagecoach" in 1913, and Thrupp & Maberly was the body maker.
This special Bentley was built for the Nawab of Bhopal for the purpose of tiger hunting, the Indian upper class main hobby. A Bentley 6 ½ liter was completed with an open body, ammunition boxes, gun racks and generators.  A veritable "Killing Machine" from 1926.
Rolls Royce 20HP Landaulet limousine from the same year.
Here's a great Mercedes-Benz 710SS with roadster bodywork.
Sporty Bentley 4 liter tourer built in 1929
In 1929 they undertook a different mission, they built the body of Henry Seagraves formidable "Golden Arrow" with a Napier-Lion W-12 aircraft engine, 23 liters and nearly 1,000 horses. Seagraves set the world record at Daytona Beach March 11, 1929.The car has not been run since.

Rolls Royce exceeded 20HP as "lo-Rolls" this one from Thrupp & Maberly 1930.
And a coupe in the same chassis model 1930

The streamlining was in vogue well into the 30s and Thrupp & Maberly built this Bentley coupe Airline

Sweeping lines but more restrained designs seen on this Bentley saloon of the same year.
1934 was a tremendously productive year for Thrupp & Maberly, this Rolls Royce Phantom II is addressed as the "Star of India" for Sahib of Rajkotm, a very luxurious car which was often used for tiger hunting in colonial India

Lagonda was tabling large manufacturers, and their V12 Rapide was England's fastest car at the time, nearly 200 V12 Lagonda's were built and one got the body from Thrupp & Maberly.

Then Humber was a heavily built wagon, it was their chassis that was used for these four-wheel drive vehicles for the British War Office, Thrupp & Maberly designed the body.
Automobile Club is about as old as the car itself. Here we see a brave bunch of belonging to the Los Angeles Automobile Club, which is out on its first outing. The place is Hollywood on the road now known as Sunset Boulevard in 1904.
